Porto Giunco is an enchanting beach in southern Sardinia, one of the most beautiful on the island.
It is located a few steps from Villa Simius, it captivates the senses from the first glance, with its large expanse of soft white and fine sand with a light shade of opal pink, deriving from the tiny debris of the pink granite rocks, and the crystalline blue of the sea, which varies in color as you go out to sea, bringing back different shades ranging from intense blue to blue, an authentic corner of the Caribbean, which can be fully appreciated especially in June and July, when not yet it is populated by the heavy traffic of August.
Porto Giunco is a part of a long coastline that starts from Simius, the city beach, and is closed to the north by the promontory of Porto Luna, it is part of the protected area of Capo Carbonara.
The sea is mainly calm, as it is set in a promontory that defends it from the winds and the seabed is very low and sandy.
The peculiarity of Porto Giunco beach is that it is enclosed between the sea and the lagoon of the Notteri pond, giving the impression that it is enclosed between two seas.
Characteristic, moreover, are the dunes, covered with juniper, mastic and Mediterranean scrub, which give the beach a wild and scenic aspect.
During the summer it is a well-equipped beach where various services are offered such as rental of umbrellas, sunbeds and rubber boats.
Activities practiced in the area
There are several activities offered, ranging from those strictly related to the sea such as snorkeling, boat trips or surfing, to those related to the surrounding environment, such as quad biking or trekking on the promontory that leads to the tower of Porto Giunco, nine meters high and dating back to the seventeenth century, built by the Spaniard to defend the area from pirate attacks from the sea.
